The α/β hydrolase superfamily consists of diverse members involved in important biochemical processes and various diseases. Despite having unrelated sequences and different catalytic activities, they share the canonical α/β hydrolase fold with an eight-stranded parallel α/β structure and a catalytic triad of histidine, acid, and nucleophile.
Members of this superfamily are often drug targets for diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, and blood clotting disorders.
