Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides.
They range in molecular weight between ~40 kDa and ~68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1–20, and their expression patterns vary by epithelium type and differentiation stage.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is useful in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis (immunohistochemistry) and are also valuable in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
