Target Information
MST1R (RON) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell proliferation and motility.
It is a membrane-spanning, disulfide-linked heterodimer derived from cleavage of a glycosylated precursor into 35-kDa (alpha) and 150-kDa (beta) subunits.
Ligand binding induces tyrosine phosphorylation of the beta chain.
In knockout studies, MST1R/RON (-/-) mice failed to survive past the periimplantation period.
The MST1R/RON gene is mapped to 3p21, a region often altered in small cell lung and renal carcinoma, and is associated with progression of several epithelial cancers.
MST1R/RON expression is observed in many normal human tissues, with ESTs isolated from normal and cancerous colon, prostate, stomach, and uterus tissues.
