The immunogen used is a purified recombinant fragment of E7 expressed in E. coli.
Target Information
The HPV E7 proteins are small zinc-binding phosphoproteins localized in the nucleus (HPV16 E7: 98 amino acids, 15 kDa).
They are structurally and functionally similar to the E1A protein of subgenus C adenoviruses.
The N-terminal region of HPV16 E7 (first 16 amino acids) shares homology with the conserved region 1 (CR1) of E1A, and the following domain (up to amino acid 37) corresponds to region 2 (CR2).
These regions are essential for cell transformation in vitro, suggesting similar transformation mechanisms among these viruses.
The CR2 region contains the LXCXE motif (residues 22–26) responsible for binding to the tumor suppressor protein pRb.
