Target Information

The gene encoded by this product belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved and play a key role in cell motility, structure, and integrity. Alpha, beta, and gamma actin isoforms have been identified:

• Alpha actins: Major constituents of the contractile apparatus
• Beta and gamma actins: Involved in the regulation of cell motility

This antibody targets alpha actin found in skeletal muscle. Mutations in this gene are associated with:

• Nemaline myopathy type 3
• Congenital myopathy with excess thin myofilaments
• Congenital myopathy with cores
• Congenital myopathy with fiber-type disproportion

These conditions lead to muscle fiber defects.
