Target Information
The BMP9 gene encodes a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, part of the TGF-beta superfamily. These proteins contain a polybasic proteolytic processing site that produces a mature protein with seven conserved cysteine residues. BMP family members regulate cell growth and differentiation in embryonic and adult tissues. Studies in rodents indicate BMP9 plays a role in liver function and differentiation of cholinergic neurons in the central nervous system.
