Target Information
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a neuroprotective factor that influences tumor cell growth—stimulating some and inhibiting others. The ADNP gene encodes a protein upregulated by VIP, potentially mediating its stimulatory effects on certain tumor cells. The encoded protein contains one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, indicating a role as a transcription factor. It is also upregulated in proliferative tissues and may enhance cell viability via modulation of p53 activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
