This antibody detects SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein but does not cross-react with SARS-CoV or MERS-CoV spike proteins based on internal testing.
Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death. The Spike (S) protein is crucial for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody, inhibitor, and vaccine development.
The receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the Spike protein binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, exhibiting higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD. The S1 subunit contains the RBD responsible for specific ACE2 binding on target cells.
