Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Olfactory Marker Protein.
Target Information
Olfactory marker protein (OMP) is an abundant, 19-kDa, cytosolic protein that is almost exclusively expressed in mature, functioning olfactory neurons but not in the neural precursor basal cells.
The OMP gene structure and protein sequence are highly conserved between mouse, rat, and human.
Its tissue-specific expression in receptor cells, along with knockout studies, indicates that OMP is a modulatory component of the odor detection/signal transduction cascade.
OMP may act as a modulator of olfactory signal transduction and interacts with BEX1 and BEX2.
It is uniquely associated with mature olfactory receptor neurons and belongs to the olfactory marker protein family.
