This antibody detects endogenous levels of total NUP98.

Target Information

Signal-mediated nuclear import and export proceed through the nuclear pore complex (NPC), which is composed of approximately 50 unique proteins collectively known as nucleoporins. The 98 kDa nucleoporin is generated via synthesis and proteolytic cleavage of a 186 kDa precursor, yielding both 98 kDa and 96 kDa nucleoporins localized to the nucleoplasmic side of the NPC. Studies indicate the 98 kDa nucleoporin functions as a docking site for transport substrates.
The human NUP98 gene may fuse with other genes in certain leukemias (AML, T-ALL) and is located in the imprinted gene domain of 11p15.5, a key tumor-suppressor region associated with various cancers and syndromes such as Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. Alternative splicing results in several transcript variants.
