Target Information

Cytoplasmic ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain four RNA species and about 80 distinct proteins. The RPL7A gene encodes a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L7AE family of ribosomal proteins.
RPL7A can interact with nuclear hormone receptors such as the thyroid hormone receptor, inhibiting their DNA binding and transcriptional activation. The gene is part of the surfeit gene cluster and co-transcribed with several small nucleolar RNA genes (U24, U36a, U36b, U36c).
Additionally, it can form a chimeric oncogene (trk-2h) through rearrangement with the trk proto-oncogene, producing an oncoprotein containing the N-terminus of RPL7A fused to the receptor tyrosine kinase domain of trk. Multiple processed pseudogenes of RPL7A are dispersed throughout the genome.
