Target Information

FGF19 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 19) is a protein encoded by the FGF19 gene in humans, located on chromosome 11q13.3.
It belongs to the fibroblast growth factor family and consists of 216 amino acids with a signal sequence and two conserved cysteine residues.
FGF19 expression is detected in fetal brain tissue but not adult brain tissue. It interacts synergistically with Wnt-8c in inner ear development and stimulates hepatic protein and glycogen synthesis without inducing lipogenesis.
FGF19 functions independently of insulin or Akt activity, acting through the MAPK signaling pathway to activate translation machinery and glycogen synthase.
The mouse ortholog is FGF15, sharing ~50% amino acid identity and similar functions; together referred to as FGF15/19.
