Antibody detects endogenous levels of Bim only when phosphorylated at Ser77.
Target Information
BIM belongs to the BCL-2 protein family. These proteins form hetero- or homodimers and function as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in various cellular activities. The protein encoded by this gene contains a Bcl-2 homology domain 3 (BH3) and interacts with other BCL-2 family members such as BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and MCL1, acting as an apoptotic activator. Expression is inducible by nerve growth factor (NGF) and the transcription factor FKHR-L1, indicating a role in neuronal and lymphocyte apoptosis. Mouse transgenic studies suggest that this gene is essential in thymocyte-negative selection. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
