Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T-cell specific surface glycoprotein. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 provides the essential costimulatory signal for T-cell activation by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. It prevents T-cell anergy and premature apoptosis. In mice, CD28 is expressed on all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in peripheral lymphoid organs and blood, with varying expression levels during thymocyte maturation.
Diseases associated with CD28 dysfunction include mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
