Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein.
It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes.
CD28 serves as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, providing the essential second activation signal.
It prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state and is expressed in both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in peripheral tissues and blood.
In the thymus, CD28 expression is highest on immature T cells and decreases in mature thymocytes.
Dysfunction of CD28 is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
