This antibody is specific for mouse Selenoprotein W.
A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with rat SelW (98% homology) and partial reactivity with human SelW (87% homology).
Cross-reactivity with other species has not been determined.

Target Information

Selenoprotein W is a selenoprotein containing a selenocysteine (Sec) residue encoded by the UGA codon.
The 3' UTR of selenoprotein mRNA includes a SECIS element required for Sec incorporation.
This protein is highly expressed in skeletal muscle, heart, and brain, belonging to the SelWTH family with a thioredoxin-like fold and conserved CxxU motif, suggesting a redox function.
In mice, Selenoprotein W is involved in muscle growth, differentiation, and neuronal protection from oxidative stress.
A retroprocessed pseudogene for this locus exists on chromosome 1.
