Target Information
Phosphorylation of receptors by protein kinases can be reversed by protein phosphatases. The balance between kinases and phosphatases allows cells to switch between phosphorylated and dephosphorylated states in response to stimuli. Dysregulation of this balance may lead to abnormal cell growth associated with cancer and developmental disorders. Protein phosphatases, though generally less substrate-specific, play a key role in controlling dephosphorylation and turnover of phosphoproteins, thus coordinating various signaling pathways and physiological responses.
