Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD61, a 90–110 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein of the integrin family. It is expressed on platelets, megakaryocytes, osteoclasts, endothelial cells, and other cell types including leukocytes and smooth muscle cells.
Target Information
CD61 (GPIIIa, ITGB3) is a glycoprotein found on megakaryocytes, platelets, and their precursors. It plays a role in platelet aggregation and serves as a receptor for fibrinogen, fibronectin, von Willebrand factor, and vitronectin. CD61 associates with either the alpha IIb integrin (CD41) or alpha V integrin (CD51) at the cell surface. It is involved in cell adhesion and cell-surface mediated signaling. Malfunction of CD61 is associated with Glanzmann Thrombasthenia and Platelet type-16 Bleeding Disorder.
