Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD61, a 90–110 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein of the integrin family. CD61 is expressed on platelets, megakaryocytes, osteoclasts, endothelial cells, leukocytes, and smooth muscle cells.
Target Information
CD61 (GPIIIa, ITGB3) is a glycoprotein found on megakaryocytes, platelets, and their precursors. It plays a role in platelet aggregation and acts as a receptor for fibrinogen, fibronectin, von Willebrand factor, and vitronectin. CD61 associates with either the alpha IIb integrin (CD41) or the alpha V integrin (CD51) at the cell surface. It participates in cell adhesion and signaling processes.
Diseases associated with CD61 dysfunction include Glanzmann Thrombasthenia and Platelet type-16 Bleeding Disorder.
