Target Information
Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins and major noncollagenous components of basement membranes. They play key roles in cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Laminin effects are mediated by cell surface receptors, including integrins and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.
This gene encodes a high-affinity, non-integrin laminin receptor 1, also known as 67 kDa laminin receptor, 37 kDa laminin receptor precursor (37LRP), and p40 ribosome-associated protein. Its amino acid sequence is highly conserved, suggesting essential biological functions. Elevated expression has been observed in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cells, correlating with invasive and metastatic phenotypes. Multiple pseudogene copies exist, likely from retropositional events. Two alternatively spliced transcripts encode the same protein.
