Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor involved in regulation of T and B cell signaling via immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Upon phosphorylation, these motifs provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is ubiquitously expressed within the vascular compartment, primarily at junctions between adjacent cells. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions.
This multifunctional molecule modulates integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis. It plays a key regulatory role in vascular biology.
