Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator. The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings), while the 19S regulator includes a base (six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to ten non-ATPase subunits). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in MHC class I peptide processing. PSMD2 encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid and may also be involved in TNF signaling via interaction with the TNF receptor. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 1.
