XPD는 ATP 의존성 DNA 헬리케이스 활성을 가지며 RAD3/XPD 헬리케이스 하위 패밀리에 속합니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 xeroderma pigmentosum 그룹 D, trichothiodystrophy, Cockayne 증후군 등 여러 질환을 유발할 수 있습니다. 다양한 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
