Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the adenylate kinase family of enzymes, localized to the mitochondrial matrix. Adenylate kinases regulate adenine and guanine nucleotide compositions within a cell by catalyzing the reversible phosphate transfer among these nucleotides. Five isozymes have been identified in vertebrates, showing tissue-specific and developmental regulation. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 17. Three transcript variants (NM_013410, NM_203464, NM_001005353) encode the same protein on chromosome 1.
