Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic structure of four polypeptide chains: two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa and lambda, each approximately 22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda light chains have variable and constant regions that differ antigenically. The kappa to lambda ratio is typically 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa light chain are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates a clonal, and therefore malignant, population.
