Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share the same basic four polypeptide chain structure of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa, lambda). Kappa and lambda chains consist of variable and constant regions, distinguishable by their antigenic properties. The kappa to lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa light chain are useful in identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
