Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two main parts: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.

  • The 20S core consists of four rings (two alpha and two beta rings) with 28 non-identical subunits.
  • The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
    Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent manner.
    They play a key role in class I MHC peptide processing and may also participate in TNF signaling pathways.
    A pseudogene related to this protein is found on chromosome 1.
