Target Information
Adipose tissue plays a major role in regulating metabolism and immunity by producing and secreting bioactive molecules called adipokines. The C1q/tumor necrosis factor-alpha-related proteins (CTRPs) 1–7 are structural and functional paralogs of adiponectin/ACRP30. Unlike adiponectin, CTRPs are expressed in a wide variety of tissues. Structural analyses indicate an evolutionary link between TNF and C1q-containing proteins, suggesting a common ancestral origin. Multiple isoforms of human CTRP3 have been reported, and CTRP3 may play a role in skeletal development.
