This antibody binds to the alpha 4 subunit of alpha 4 beta 1 (also known as very late antigen 4 [VLA-4] or CD49d-CD29) and alpha 4 beta 7 integrin.
Target Information
Natalizumab is a recombinant, humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to alpha4beta1 integrin and blocks its interaction with vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1). It can be used for the study of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease. Natalizumab is the first targeted therapy that blocks an essential mechanism for lymphocyte entry to the CNS and thus prevents acute demyelinating relapses.
