Product Specific Information
1 µg/mL of MA5-45658 was sufficient for detection of Protocadherin gamma (pan) in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 100 kDa. Cross-reacts with all Gamma-protocadherin-A, -B, and -C proteins.
This antibody was formerly sold as clone S159-5.
Target Information
The protocadherin gamma gene cluster is one of three related clusters tandemly linked on chromosome 5. These clusters have an immunoglobulin-like organization, suggesting a novel mechanism in their regulation and expression.
The gamma cluster includes 22 genes divided into 3 subfamilies:
- Subfamily A: 12 genes
- Subfamily B: 7 genes + 2 pseudogenes
- Subfamily C: 3 genes
Each variable region exon encodes the extracellular region (6 cadherin ectodomains + transmembrane region), and the constant region exons encode the common cytoplasmic region. These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins play critical roles in establishing and maintaining specific neuronal connections. Alternative splicing has been observed in gamma cluster genes.
