Target Information

PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1) protects cells from mitochondrial dysfunction by regulating autophosphorylation activity of mitochondrial genes. The kinase domain is critical for its protective effects. Mitochondrial proteins are essential for cellular energy regulation and stress adaptation, especially in brain cells where energy demand is high. Dysfunction in mitochondrial structure or function can lead to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
