Target Information

ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a critical component in the autophagy pathway and may also play roles in apoptosis. It contributes to mitochondrial quality control, regulation of innate antiviral responses, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Upon conjugation with ATG12, the ATG5-ATG12 complex participates in autophagosome formation and autophagic cell death through interaction with FADD.
ATG5 expression occurs downstream of caspase activation during apoptosis and can modulate innate immune signaling by interacting with RIG-I and VISA, thereby influencing type I interferon production.
Dysfunction of ATG5 has been associated with diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia.
