The Connexin32 monoclonal antibody recognizes human, mouse, rat, and chicken Connexin 32. Connexins are integral membrane proteins forming gap junction channels that enable direct cell-cell communication. Gap junctions consist of two hemichannels (connexons), each composed of six connexin proteins. Over 20 connexin proteins have been identified, forming homomeric or heteromeric channels with distinct functional properties.
Connexin 32 is expressed by myelin, neurons, oligodendrocytes, and hepatocytes, playing roles in ovarian follicle development and disease progression in chronic multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. Mutations in the Connexin 32 gene (GJB1) cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, characterized by peripheral nerve dysfunction.

Suitable for western blotting, immunohistochemical staining (frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue), microscopy, and immunocytochemistry.

Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the gap junction protein family. These membrane-spanning proteins form channels that facilitate ion and small molecule transfer between cells. Based on sequence similarity, gap junction proteins are categorized into alpha and beta types. Mutations in this gene cause X-linked Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, an inherited peripheral neuropathy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
