Product Specific Information

Antibody detects endogenous levels of RPS6 only when phosphorylated at Tyr209.

Target Information

Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPS6 gene encodes a cytoplasmic ribosomal protein that is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It is a major substrate of ribosomal protein kinases, with phosphorylation occurring at multiple serine residues in response to growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens. Dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein may play a role in controlling cell growth and proliferation through selective translation of mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
