Target Information
YBX1 binds to splice sites in pre-mRNA and regulates splice site selection. It stabilizes cytoplasmic mRNA and modulates translation by interacting with eukaryotic initiation factors. This protein binds promoters containing a Y-box (5'-CTGATTGGCCAA-3'), such as HLA class II genes, regulating transcription of numerous genes. It promotes separation of mismatched or cisplatin-modified DNA strands, exhibits endonucleolytic activity introducing nicks or breaks into double-stranded DNA (in vitro), and may play a role in DNA repair.
