Target Information
VLR-1 (TRPV2) is a calcium-permeable, non-selective cation channel with outward rectification. It is regulated by growth factors such as IGF1, PDGF, and morphogenetic neuropeptide/head activator.
VRL-1 does not respond to capsaicin, acid, or moderate heat, but is activated by high temperatures (threshold ~52°C). It is prominently expressed in medium- to large-diameter sensory neurons, suggesting a role in high-threshold heat response.
VRL-1 transcripts are also found outside the sensory nervous system, indicating activation by other stimuli. It belongs to the vanilloid-like TRP-channel family, now known as the TRPV family.
