Target Information
VLR-1 (also known as TRPV2) is a calcium-permeable, non-selective cation channel exhibiting outward rectification. It is regulated by growth factors such as IGF1, PDGF, and morphogenetic neuropeptides.
TRPV2 is activated by high temperatures (threshold ≈ 52°C) rather than capsaicin, acid, or moderate heat. Within sensory ganglia, TRPV2 is expressed in medium- to large-diameter neurons, suggesting a role in high-threshold heat response.
Expression is not limited to the sensory nervous system, implying activation by stimuli other than heat. TRPV2 is one of six members of the vanilloid-like TRP-channel family, now classified as the TRPV family.
