TRPV3는 비선택적 양이온 채널(nonselective cation channel) 계열에 속하며, 온도 감지와 혈관 조절 등 다양한 생리적 과정에 관여합니다. 이 채널은 피부의 감각 뉴런 하위 집단에서 발현되며, 22–40°C 범위의 온도에서 활성화됩니다.
TRPV3 유전자는 TRPV1 유전자 근처(염색체 17)에 위치하며, 두 단백질은 이합체 채널(heteromeric channels)을 형성할 수 있습니다.
