Target Information
Caspase 9 (ICE-like apoptotic protease 6, ICE LAP6, apoptotic protease Mch6, Apaf3) belongs to the peptidase family C14 and contains a CARD domain. It mediates apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates and activates Caspase 3 and Caspase 6.
Caspase 9 is active as a heterotetramer, translocates to mitochondria upon activation, and plays a key role in apoptosis execution. It promotes DNA damage-induced apoptosis in an ABL1/c-Abl-dependent manner and cleaves poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP).
Expression varies across human tissues, and mutations or low expression levels are associated with abnormal brain development, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease.
