Target Information

CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in all endothelial cells and in various normal and malignant cell types. CD146 functions as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule and may act in signal transduction involving Fyn kinase activation and tyrosine phosphorylation of intracellular proteins related to actin cytoskeleton assembly.
It plays a critical role in endothelial cohesion and vascular integrity. CD146 expression facilitates melanoma cell interaction with vascular components, potentially promoting tumor metastasis. It may also serve as an adhesion molecule in neural crest cells during embryonic development and as a surface receptor triggering phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2 with transient intracellular calcium increase.
