Target Information
CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in endothelial cells and other normal and malignant cell types. Beyond its role as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule, CD146 functions in signal transduction, recruiting Fyn kinase and mediating tyrosine phosphorylation of intracellular proteins involved in actin cytoskeleton assembly. It contributes to endothelial cohesion, melanoma metastasis, and may play roles in neural crest cell adhesion during embryonic development. CD146 also acts as a surface receptor triggering phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2 and increasing intracellular calcium concentration.
