Product Specific Information

Mouse anti-progesterone monoclonal antibody, clone 1188/344, is specific for progesterone — a steroid hormone synthesized from the cholesterol derivative pregnenolone in the adrenal cortex.

Target Information

Progesterone is the major progestational steroid secreted primarily by the corpus luteum and the placenta. It binds to the progesterone receptor, leading to dissociation of heat shock proteins, receptor phosphorylation, and transcription activation through direct or indirect interaction with transcription factors.
Progesterone acts on the uterus, mammary glands, and brain, and is required for embryo implantation, pregnancy maintenance, and mammary tissue development for milk production.
Converted from pregnenolone, it also serves as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of gonadal steroid hormones and adrenal corticosteroids.
Therapeutic progesterone, a synthetic form of the endogenous hormone, inhibits estrogens by decreasing estrogen receptor numbers and increasing metabolism to inactive metabolites.
