  • Does not react with guinea pig.
  • Suitable for paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Recommended fixation: 95% ethanol / 5% acetic acid for 2–3 hours before embedding.
  • Specimens not fixed in acetic acid/alcohol may require pretreatment using microwave-citrate buffer method.
  • Mouse anti-Human Protein Gene Product 9.5 antibody (clone 31A3) recognizes PGP9.5, a ubiquitin hydrolase widely expressed in neuronal tissues, representing 1–2% of total soluble brain proteins.

Target Information

PGP9.5 (Protein Gene Product 9.5, also known as UCH-L1 or PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein, distinct from neuron-specific enolase.
It has a molecular weight of 27 kDa and belongs to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12).
PGP9.5 exhibits ubiquitin hydrolase and ligase activities, hydrolyzing small C-terminal adducts of ubiquitin to generate monomers.
It is present in neurons and nerve fibers throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as in neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, ova, and corpus luteum cells.
Overexpression is linked to non-small cell lung cancer, while reduced expression is associated with Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
PGP9.5 serves as a useful neuronal marker in neurodegenerative disorder studies, including Parkinson’s disease.
