Human pepsinogen I (isozymogens 2-5), porcine pepsinogen, gastrin I, somatostatin, peptide YY, bombesin 등에 대한 반응성은 1% 미만으로 보고되었습니다.

Pepsin은 위 점막에서 분비되는 주요 단백질 분해 효소 중 하나입니다.
Pepsin은 단일 폴리펩타이드 사슬로 구성되어 있으며, 전구체인 pepsinogen에서 N-말단의 41 아미노산 절단을 통해 생성됩니다.
Pepsinogen은 위 점막에서 합성되며, 위산(HCl)은 비활성 효소를 활성화하고 pepsin 기능에 최적의 산도(pH 1–3)를 유지하는 데 필요합니다.
Pepsin은 방향족 아미노산이 포함된 펩타이드 결합을 절단하는 데 특히 효과적이며, phenylalanine 및 leucine 결합을 선호하지만 다양한 결합을 절단할 수 있습니다.
Pepsin C의 아미노산 조성은 pepsinogen 및 pepsin과 달리 염기성 아미노산, 글루탐산, 아스파르트산, 류신, 아이소류신 함량에서 차이를 보입니다.
