Target Information

GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.

Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH plays roles in:

  • DNA replication and repair
  • Nuclear RNA export
  • Membrane fusion and microtubule bundling

It is implicated in apoptosis, neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s), and cancer-related processes. GAPDH interacts with proteins such as amyloid precursor protein and Huntingtin.

Due to its high expression across tissues, GAPDH serves as a reliable protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
