Reconstitution:
Dissolve the protein in sterile double-distilled water to a concentration of 0.2 mg/mL or lower. It is recommended that the protein be aliquoted and used as soon as possible. Store aliquots under sterile conditions at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Target Information
Influenza A virus is a major public health threat, responsible for more than 30,000 deaths annually in the USA. In early 2009, a novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) virus was identified in Mexico and the United States and subsequently spread worldwide, leading to a pandemic declaration by the World Health Organization on June 11, 2009.
Influenza A viruses possess one of sixteen possible Hemagglutinin (HA) and one of nine possible Neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins. HA facilitates viral attachment, while NA aids in viral release. Both proteins elicit immune responses that can prevent infection or reduce replication.
The 2009 swine-origin H1N1 virus combined genetic material from human, swine, and avian influenza strains, along with additional pig H3N2 genes of Eurasian origin. These unique antigenic properties limited existing human immunity, though older populations showed partial protection.
