Target Information

Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) is a 44-kDa glycoprotein that interacts with the NEU/ERBB2 receptor tyrosine kinase, increasing its phosphorylation on tyrosine residues. Multiple isoforms are produced by alternative splicing, including heregulins (HRGs), glial growth factors (GGFs), and sensory/motor neuron-derived factor (SMDF).
These isoforms differ structurally and are tissue-specifically expressed:

  • HRG isoforms contain Ig and EGF-like domains
  • GGF isoforms contain kringle-like, Ig, and EGF-like domains
  • SMDF isoform shares only the EGF-like domain

NRG1 isoforms interact with ERBB family receptors to induce growth and differentiation of epithelial, neuronal, glial, and other cell types.
