Target Information

Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type glycoprotein (40–43 kDa) expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. It localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells.
As a regulator of lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin likely contributes to maintaining podocyte morphology. It serves as a ligand for CLEC-2 and correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential.
Podoplanin is involved in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tissue invasion. Expression may be induced via Src activation of Cas, and recent findings suggest its presence on Th17 cells.
Initial studies indicate a small but distinct population of CD4⁺ cells from human PBMC expressing podoplanin. Dysfunction of this protein is associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottic neoplasm. It is also proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological function.
