Target Information
Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells. As a regulator of lymphatic endothelium, it plays a role in maintaining the unique morphology of podocytes. Podoplanin serves as a ligand for CLEC-2, and its expression correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. It is directly involved in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor invasion. Podoplanin expression is induced through Src activation of Cas and may also be present on Th17 cells. Studies suggest its presence on a small population of CD4+ cells from human PBMC. Dysfunction of podoplanin has been linked to diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottis neoplasm. It has also been proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological function.
