Target Information
PGP9.5 (Protein Gene Product 9.5, UCH-L1, PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein distinct from neuron-specific enolase, with a molecular weight of 27 kDa. It belongs to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12) and possesses both hydrolase and ligase activities, generating ubiquitin monomers.
PGP9.5 is expressed in neurons, nerve fibers, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, and ovarian tissues. Overexpression is associated with non-small cell lung cancer, while decreased expression is linked to Huntington and Alzheimer diseases. It serves as a neuronal marker useful in neurodegenerative disease studies such as Parkinson’s disease.
